Santa Lucia was already one of the best Italian restaurants in Stuttgart back in the 50's and 60's. The well-known architect Herbert Hirche, a protégée of Mies van der Rohe, designed the restaurant for the first time in 1957. It was then completely redeveloped in 1969 and again became an architectural icon of the time. The latest renovation of the present fish restaurant is a tribute to the architect and to the 50's and 60's, the legendary "trattoria" era in Italy. Hirche's chairs dating back to 1957 were specially remade by Richard Lampert, lamps designed by Gio Ponti (Fato, Artemide) and Achille Castiglioni (Parentesi, Flos) recall the era. The colours light blue, navy and coral red, the chequered tablecloths and the poetic objects by Paola Navone create the aesthetics of a simple, casual south Italian seafood restaurant which is nevertheless still stylish.
